Safety is one of our number one priorities at Brentwood School

Screen shot 2012-09-06 at 9.02.02 AM.png

ALL PARENTS NEED  TO FOLLOW THE BRENTWOOD SCHOOL SAFETY PROCEDURES AND THE ILLINOIS STATE LAW EVERYDAY!

SAFETY RULES:

AT NO TIME ARE PARENTS ALLOWED TO USE THE STAFF PARKING LOT AS A DROP OFF, PICK UP OR TURN AROUND SPOT.
This creates a very unsafe situation, as we have witnessed children running through the lot, nearly getting hit by parents using the lot as a drop off, pick up or turn around.

CHILDREN RIDING IN CARS NEED TO BE DROPPED OFF AND PICKED UP IN ONE OF THREE AREAS:

  1. On Dulles Road at the southeast corner of the school by the primary playground.
  2. At the front door on Brentwood Drive. Parents drive through the Kiss & Ride exiting left onto Brentwood Drive.
  3. On Brentwood Drive, just PAST the staff parking lot at the northeast corner of the building by the ball field.

  • Children need to enter and exit cars on the curbside only.
  • Double parking creates a traffic jam, so keep moving until you find a safe spot to stop.
  • The staff/visitor parking lot is prohibited from dropping off or picking up.
  • Drivers may not back up or use driveways to turn around. Driveways are personal property, and should not be used as a short cut.
PLEASE USE THE CUL-DE- SACS. You will help make our neighborhood a safer place.
  • Observe the speed limit in school zones, and proceed with caution.

Please note the following traffic laws, and follow them AT ALL TIMES:

  1. Stopping, standing or parking is legally prohibited on a crosswalk or within an intersection.
  2. Standing or parking a vehicle is legally prohibited within 20 feet of a crosswalk or within 30 feet of a stop sign.
  3. It is legally prohibited to use cell phones in a school zone.
  4. The Des Plaines Police Department has kept signs posted on Dulles Road to help protect our children from danger. There will be NO parking on Dulles Road (outside near our lunchroom) from 8:30 am - 9:30 am, and from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Violators will be ticketed if parked in the NO PARKING ZONE during the times listed.

*The police have and will ticket any violators, and have been patrolling the area regularly to make sure our children are safe.

Staying Healthy at School

spring.jpgSpring is a season of change. The mornings are chilly and then warm up. Please make sure your child is adequately dressed to go outdoors for recess. Dressing in layers is a good idea. Spring colds and allergies can also effect your child. Please check your child before school. School District 59 policy states “children cannot come to school if they have a fever greater than 100 degrees. They must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication before they can return to school.
