Letter from the Principal

Kim Barrett Bio

Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Dr. Kim Barrett, and I am thrilled to be starting my fifth year as principal at Brentwood Elementary. I am honored to continue to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of excellence in education! I am committed to exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to effectively communicate with parents and community members. I believe that a strong school-family partnership opens doors, ignites school spirit, promotes improvement, and establishes trust.

I am first and foremost a mother and wife. My oldest daughter, Makenna, is starting her third year of college in Virginia, and my youngest daughter, Kassidy, will begin her junior year in high school. As a parent, I know all too well the trust that you put into the school to care for your child while they are with us. I take that responsibility very seriously and pledge to watch over, protect, and nurture your children while they are in our care.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for over twenty years. I have worked with a variety of students ranging in age from kindergarten through college as a teacher and instructional coach. Prior to coming to Brentwood, I served as an Executive Director of Literacy and Instructional Coaching in District 59 for five years. Of all the roads my career has taken, I am grateful that the path has led me to become Brentwood’s principal.

Along with the teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of preparing students to be successful for life by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners. We will continue to focus on educating the whole child through Social Emotional Learning and by providing academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections. The experiences of the last few years regarding the pandemic have not been easy. More now than ever, we need to create a nurturing and supporting environment for our students, and that continues to be my promise to our families.

To our students, I cannot wait to see all of you! I hope that you are excited about this coming school year. It is going to be a fun year learning together, expanding our minds, growing friendships, and building character.

I look forward to working with our families as a team to help each student at Brentwood meet their goals and have a successful school year!

Fondly,

Dr. Kim Barrett
