Community members, CCSD59 students continue charitable partnership during the holidays
As communities around the world continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen how that can impact the students, families, and educators we interact with every day. Over the last two years, the work of the district’s community outreach specialists, along with our relationship with local businesses and charity programs, has adopted a new level of importance.
The holiday season is always one of the busiest periods for donation drives throughout the district, and those efforts have become more vital as friends and caregivers have emerged in unprecedented ways to provide assistance for their fellow community members.
Staff from several schools collaborated with outside organizations to sponsor families to provide toys, clothing, books, gift cards, and meals for the upcoming holidays. Several hundred students in total have been “adopted” by staff or community members to fulfill a need or want this year.
Holiday shops have also been established at school sites for families to select free or affordable items to share as gifts, while families also received the chance to visit the administration center to collect winter clothing and other items.
These are just a few common examples of how school communities have united to offer gestures of goodwill.
“It is heartwarming to see everyone come together to support our district families,” said Marlyn Orozco, Family Facilitator at the Early Learning Center. “It’s one of the things that our community does so well. We can’t thank everyone enough for the love and support they pour out to our families during the holiday season!
