Brentwood Patriot Day Observance
Sixteen years ago on September 11, there were many people who pledged to always remember 9/11. Today, at Brentwood School, our learners and educators continued to remember the sacrifices made that day. Everyone at Brentwood surrounded the outside of our school together and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Members of Des Plaines VFW Post 2992, Keith Renner, Mike Lake and Tom Repa taught fifth grade learners proper flag etiquette as they raised, then lowered the flag to half-staff. Brentwood fifth grader, Nicole, told the VFW, “I am so proud to be doing this.”
Our Brentwood School community made their way to the blacktop to line up in red, white and blue order. Learners were delighted when the Des Plaines Fire Department sent Lt. Despaltro and Firefighter/Paramedics Pawlyk and O’Mara to Brentwood to lift Dr. Merritt and LRC Director Mrs. Sullivan soaring over our group in Tower Ladder Truck 63 so a photo could be taken to commemorate the day. Kindergarten educator, Mrs. Melaniphy, pointed out to her students, “Some of our heroes are right over there.” Amid the cheering, one firefighter said, “Even though time passes and memories are less, it is so great that we are not forgotten.” Pride was in the air today at Brentwood Elementary School. Take a look at our photo memories.
