Letter from the Principal

Letter from the Principal

Kim Barrett Bio

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is with enthusiasm and honor that I introduce myself to the Brentwood Elementary School community as the new principal for the 2019 – 2020 academic year. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of excellence in education! I arrive at Brentwood as a seasoned elementary teacher and district administrator, but in addition to my role as an educator, I am first and foremost a mother and wife. In August, my oldest daughter, Makenna, will be a junior in high school, and my youngest daughter, Kassidy, will begin seventh grade. As a parent, I know all too well the trust that you put into the school to care for while they are with us. I take that responsibility very seriously and pledge to watch over, protect, and nurture your children while they are in our care.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for twenty years. I have worked with a variety of students ranging in age from kindergarten through college as a teacher and instructional coach. For the past five years, I served as an Executive Director of Literacy and Instructional Coaching in District 59. am excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to Brentwood and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

Being in the district for several years has afforded me many opportunities to spend some quality time at Brentwood and forge relationships with staff. I developed such a fondness for this school and it has continued to grow. Along with the teachers and staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of preparing students to be successful for life by building strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners. We will focus on educating the whole child through Social Emotional Learning and by providing academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections.

My history in the district and recent conversations with staff have brought me privileged insights into the core beliefs and values that underlie the Brentwood culture. With my goal of continuing the tradition of excellence at Brentwood Elementary School, I am committed to always exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to more effectively communicate with parents and community members.

We will be meeting with parents, students, and as a staff throughout the year to identify specific goals in the areas of student achievement, school climate, and parent communication. Our first Meet and Greet opportunity will take place on July 31st from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Brentwood. We will serve light refreshments, juice, and coffee. Please feel free to stop by on your way to the beach, during your work break, or after your morning workout to join the conversation. We will also host a Literacy and Math Family Social in the beginning of August. More details will be released soon. We hope to see you there!

To our students, I cannot wait to meet you all! I hope that you are excited for this coming school year and that you are out this summer playing and reading tons of books with your family and friends. It is going to be a fun year learning together. If you are nearby the school at all this summer, please stop by and say hello!

I look forward to working with you as a team to help each student at Brentwood meet their goals and have a successful school year!

Fondly,

Dr. Kim Barrett
